How Common Is ED?

Above age 70, there is about a 95% likelihood of having some difficulty with erectile function. Men with diabetes tend to develop erectile dysfunction 10 to 15 years earlier than men without diabetes.
What Causes ED?
Factors both physical and psychological can cause ED. Physical cause include heart disease, high blood pressure, restricted blood flow (arteriosclerosis), obesity, diabetes, low testosterone (LowT), penile scar tissue, certain prescriptions, tobacco, alcohol or substance use and prostate cancer treatments.
What Happens at the First Appointment?
Immediately upon your arrival, you will be taken to a private examining room to see a doctor. He will perform a few tests, including an ultra sound test, check all medical conditions, and ask about any medications you are presently taking. He will take those results and discuss with you the best treatment to fix your problem immediately and to get and maintain an erection.
The process if safe and painless with zero side effects and you get all of this on your first consultation. After several minutes he will return to the room to be sure you are happy with the results. He will then discuss with you the time you would like to maintain your erection every time you decide to have sex. Your total time will be about 1 ½ to 2 hours as we need to make sure your test dose worked properly. How is ED Diagnosed?
After a medical and sexual history are reviewed and examination by our Physician is performed blood tests and urinalysis are requested to measure levels and screen for diseases causing or increasing the likelihood of ED.
What is the Treatment for ED?
ED can be treated at any age. Because there is more awareness that this problem is experienced by most men, the embarrassment usually associated with the problem is reduced. Available Medications for Treating ED
The Performance Medical Centers Physician will discuss with you the available treatment options. There is medication which will improve the reaction to sexual stimulus, or which will produce an erection involuntarily when taken. None of the current medications prescribed for erectile dysfunction should be used more than once a day.
If I Am Taking Nitrates or Alpha-blockers Can I Take the Medication?
Yes, Performance Medical Centers can effectively treat men taking nitrate-based medications or alpha-blockers.
Drugs such as Viagra®, Levitra® or Cialis® should not be used by men on nitrate medication for heart problems because combining them can cause a sudden and severe lowering of blood pressure. Our State Board Certified Physician will discuss medications available to men that currently take medications that are nitrate-based.
You will be asked to provide the physician with a list of all medication you are taking. If you take alpha-blockers, which are used to treat prostate enlargement or high blood pressure the doctor may need to adjust your ED prescription. He will make certain to avoid any combination of drugs that can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure.
